Hierba del Bazo
Encelia halimifolia

Family: Asteraceae

Very little is documented about this plant. It grows much like the other Encelia species, about 3’ tall and wide, and seems to bloom in the cooler seasons like our regular brittlebush (Encelia farinosa).

Plant in full sun, provide good drainage and moderate to low water. Hardiness is unknown but there are some plants that have persisted for some time at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.

The specific epithet, halimifolia means leaves like Halimus, a species of Orach or Saltbush (Atriplex halimus). There are 22 species of Encelia found in arid environments in southwestern North America and western South America.

Native to Baja California and Sonora.
