Narrowleaf Yucca
Yucca angustissima
Family: Asparagaceae
These are generally shorter plants though some reach about 6’ tall. Plants are sometimes solitary and sometimes clustering, and the basal rosettes get up to 10’ wide. Blooms can rise up about 7-8’ above the plants with white flowers.
Plant in full sun, provide good drainage. Low water when established though a watering once or twice a month in summer will keep plants very happy. Hardy to -10°F.
The species epitaph, angustissima, means narrow, referring to the leaves.
Occurs on desert flats, mesas, often in sandy habitats or sandstone outcrops from 3,000-7,500’ in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, with a few plants in far western Texas.
