Buddleia marrubifolia
Woolly Butterfly Bush

Family: Scrophulariaceae

Evergreen (silver) shrub, usually 5x5’, Orange flowers occur in warm weather, almost any time of year, in clusters that form a ball.

Grow in full sun, with moderate water, provide good drainage. Hardy to 10°F.

Excellent butterfly nectar plant (and other nectar-feeding insects).

A note on the spelling: the name "Buddleja" is the original spelling of the genus name, while "Buddleia" is a later spelling variation that has gained acceptance over time. The genus, Buddleja, was named after the English botanist Reverend Adam Buddle, (1662 – 15 April 1715) an English clergyman and botanist. The species name, marrubifolia, means “horehound leaf” as the foliage somewhat resembles the foliage of Marrubium vulgare, horehound. There are 118 species of Buddleia.

Endemic to the Chihuahuan Desert from southern Texas to San Luis Potosí in Mexico, where it grows on limestone and gypsum soils in canyons and arroyos, 1,970 to 7,380 ft.
