Perennials to about 2’ tall. Yellow flowers July through October. Nectar rich flowers, followed by thick achenes (seeds).

Good in containers. Best in part sun to shade with regular water. extremely cold hardy.

Used by numerous pollinators. Seeds attract granivorous birds.

There are 15 species of Heliopsis native to dry prairies in North and South America. Heliopsis is from the Greek helios for "sun" and opsis for "appearance") refers to the bright yellow color of the flowers, while parvifolia means small leaved.

Found on rich soils in canyons and on rocky mountain slopes, from 4,000-8,000 ft in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas; into northern Mexico.
